The First National Bank of Talladega is the oldest bank in the State of Alabama, being founded in 1848.

Talladega is a Muscogee (Creek) Native American word derived from TVLVTEKE. The source of this name is Creek tålwa, meaning "town", and åtigi, or "border" -- "Border Town" -- a town indicating its location on the boundary between the lands of the Creek tribe and those of the Natchez people. While the town's name is /?tæl??d???/ by local inhabitants, the racetrack's name is /?tæl??de???/ by auto racing fans.
