Hammond is the largest city in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 20,019 in the 2010 census, nearly evenly divided between whites and African Americans.

Hammond is home to Southeastern Louisiana University. The city was the home base for production of the first season of the NBC television series In the Heat of the Night, starring Carroll O'Connor .

Hammond is the principal city of the Hammond Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Tangipahoa Parish.

Former U.S. Representative James H. Morrison, who held Louisiana's 6th congressional district seat from 1943 to 1967, was born in 1908 in Hammond.
