Grinnell is a town situated on the westside of Poweshiek County, Iowa, United States comprising an area of 36 miles. The town took distinct form and name on March 6, 1855, when it was named in honor of Mr. J. B. Grinnell, one of its prominent settlers. The population was 9,218 at the 2010 census.

Grinnell is home to Grinnell College, one of the top liberal arts college in the nation . In addition, Grinnell has become an industrial hub for many large corporations. Brownell's, Jeld-Wen, Monsanto, and Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance have facilities in Grinnell.

In recent years, the town has received nation-wide recognition. ''MSN Local Edition'' named Grinnell "one of the top 10 best college towns in North America.""Our Iowa" magazine named Grinnell "Best Bloomin' Town in Iowa" and was also a finalist for the "Prettiest Painted Places" award given out by Paint Quality Institute.Grinnell was also listed among the top American communities in Norman Crampton's publication "The 100 Best Small Towns in America."
