Syracuse University, commonly referred to as Syracuse, 'Cuse, or SU, is a private research university located in Syracuse, New York, United States. Its roots can be traced back to Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1832, which also later founded Genesee College. Following several years of debate over relocating the college to Syracuse, the university was founded independent of the college in 1870. Since 1920, the university has identified itself as nonsectarian, although it maintains a relationship with The United Methodist Church.
The campus is located in the University Hill neighborhood of Syracuse, east and southeast of downtown, on one of the larger hills. Its large campus features an eclectic mix of buildings, ranging from nineteenth-century Romanesque structures to contemporary buildings. SU is organized into 13 schools and colleges, with nationally recognized programs in information studies and library science, architecture, communications, business administration, public administration, engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences.
Syracuse University athletic teams, known as the Orange, participate in 20 intercollegiate sports. SU is a member of the Big East Conference for all NCAA Division I athletics, except for women's ice hockey, and the rowing team. On July 1, 2013, Syracuse will leave the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference. SU is also a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

Don't believe the Hype!
What- A- RIP-OFF. University had the audacity to swindle me ( by suggesting to re-register for a course, I had already registered & paid for) This, at $1,522 a credit) for a 3 cr. course ($4,566) I successfully completed and got an A in. The Registra made an error in processing me, for a summer session course I had got an "I" in and successfully completed in the fall online, ( as agreed w/ my professor) I made an appointment to speak with the Dean, who said I would get the credit - acting like she was doing me a favor- (but I would have to pay again- and F.Aid would not cover it twice -since, theoretically, I did not fail). The university was unwilling to correct it and I refused to pay twice, so needless to say, I left the university. (This was my first semester there, quite the welcome) I am now repaying that loan with nothing to show for it. Un- Real. Never again.
